Comment: Stayed at the Yanakiev from 7-14th Feb 2009. What a great place. Just on the edge of the resort, 2 minutes into town, this hotel is virtually new. Our party consisted of 4 people, 2 adults and 2 children aged 11 and 8. Our room was more of an apartment with seperate bedroom containing a double bed and a living room with 2 double sofas, TV with limited English channels and a kitchenette. The bathroom was seperate. Two slept in the double bed and two on perfectly adequate camp-beds. Loads of storage and a balcony overlooking a ski slope made this a great room. Cleaned daily. The food was of a usual hotel standard, nothing startling but varied and plentiful. English and Continental breakfast with evening meals were usually had a mix of meat, fish, salad and veg. I have read some reviews about Bulgarian food always served luke warm, what a load of rubbish. Also found that they served a lovely Bulgarian Merlot around a tenner a bottle. The restaurant is on the same floor as the bar which was always open but never busy or noisy. This is not the place to go if you are a group looking for some apres-action.
The Yanakiev has more of a grown up feel to it than other Borovets hotels we went into and altough this may sound contradictory with younger kids it was just right for us. With no disco or nightclub nearby once in bed there were no disturbances.
There is a pool which is free to use and also a massage centre with sauna and steam rooms for a fee. The hotel provided additional towels for swimming. There is also a ski deposit and although we got our equipment elsewhere they were happy to store our kit for us and waived the normal charge. There is a small games area for the kids, pinball, arcade games and the like and a pool table. Staff were very helpful and their English was miles better than my Bulgarian.
